James Milaner has chosen to switch to Brighton’s 20th shirt for the new season, as his former Liverpool’s colleague-colleague DIAMate Dio-Diogo Jota has a personal tribute, which died last month.
A few weeks after helping Liverpool a winner of the Premier League, his 28 -year -old Portugal International died in a car accident in June with his brother Andre Silva in June.
Responding to his death, Liverpool confirmed that Jot’s iconic number 20 shirt – worn in his five -year words at Enfield – will be permanently retired.
Three of those seasons were spent with the experienced English Midfilder before leaving for Brighton in 2023.
Before the campaign of 225-6, Brighton’s colleague Carlos Baleba decided to take the number 1 shirt and 3 are available.
Milanar, who has previously worn on the south coast, saw the opportunity to gesture the 6th.
“Once I heard that Carlos was planning to change your number and 2 was available, I wanted to do it as a respect and pay homage to Diogo Jota,” Milanar said in a message posted on Brighton’s X.
“He was an amazing player with which I was lucky and even a good friend.
“This year it will be a great honor to wear his number in the Premier League.”
The senior midfielder, whose contract was renewed by Brighton in June and now on the 40th birthday, went to Portugal in July to attend the funeral of Jota.
The passage of Jota has made a lasting impression on the football world, which raises many tributes. # # #
