Maboko made his debut in the WTA tour in March and took Goff to Rome in three sets in her second competition.
“During the match, I was thinking a lot about it a lot,” said Mboko. “When I played a little in Rome, I had a flashback. I remember when she was playing even better and doing a little better.
“I wanted to make my game a little more and I want to match what she was making and I want to be there with her.”
She broke the United States three times in 25 minutes in the first set.
The second set was a rigorous case that served for the first 11 matches.
Goff failed to convert three break points in the entire set, Maboko took over her only chance to close the victory.
World No. 2 Goff said: “I think she is going to have a lot of success on the tour. I’m sure we are going to have more battle in the future.”
